READINGS with Alize Rozsnyai

The American Composers Forum, Philadelphia Chapter is pleased to announce an opportunity for Philadelphia area composers to work with the extraordinary soprano Alize Rozsnyai.  Up to eight selected composers will receive 90mins of one-on-one workshopping time with Alize Rozsnyai and a recording of a reading of their work. 

FEE: $0 • APPLICATION DUE: Monday, May 2, 2022 at 11:59pm EST

This opportunity is for:

  • Philadelphia area composers (your primary residence is within 50 miles of Philadelphia's City Hall)

  • Works that feature solo voice (soprano) up to 8 mins in duration (excerpts of longer works and works in progress are eligible). Works that include additional instruments are eligible, however only the voice part will be considered for workshopping. No additional instrumentalists will be present. Preference will be given to works not previously recorded or widely performed. Extended techniques are acceptable. Voice range should be ~G3-D6.

  • Composers of all ages, genres/styles and career points are encourage to apply

TO APPLY: applicants must fill out a short application form (link below) and provide a link to a PDF of their composition.

NOTIFICATIONS will be made by June 1, 2022. We anticipate this program taking place in early October 2022, and are hopeful (but can not guarantee) that the workshops can take place with the composer and performer in the same room (with masks and other safety protocols in place).

Alize Francheska Rozsnyai, operatic coloratura soprano “displaying profound imagination and control” (Philadelphia Inquirer), a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music, has been described as a "stage animal". Recent performances include a debut with Opera Fayetteville as Zina in Nico Muhly’s Dark Sisters, Morgana in Alcina REVAMPED with Alter Ego Chamber Opera, for which she “impresses as Morgana" (Broad Street Review). Recent engagements include Phyllis in Iolanthe at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Harrogate, England, and Soprano Soloist with Contemporaneous Ensemble for Beth Morrison Projects’ Next Gen Concert 2021.

Upcoming, she will perform two brand new works including the lead role of Rivka in the workshop of Liebovar by Misha Dutka, with Opera Boheme NJ, Evelyn Hutchinson in Silk City with Garden State Opera, at Carnegie Hall with the Philadelphia Orchestra in Gabriela Lena Frank's work Pachamama Meets an Ode, and Serpina in Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona with Hub City Opera and Dance Company, May 2022. Ms. Rozsnyai has performed with notable international companies including the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Den Nye Opera in Bergen, Norway, Opera Philadelphia, San Diego Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Seattle Symphony [Untitled 3] Series, Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Opera Fayetteville, Center for Contemporary Opera, The Cape Cod Symphony, and more. Favorite roles include Adina (l’elisir d’amore), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Susanna (le nozze di Figaro), Blanche de la force (Dialogues des Carmélites), Hilda (Elegy for Young Lovers-Henze), Ilia (Idomeneo), Eurydice (Orphée aux enfers), La Fée (Cendrillon), Königin der Nacht (Die Zauberflöte), Thérèse (Les Mamelles de Tirésias), and concert, Soprano Soloist in Orff’s Carmina Burana, among others.

Particularly excelling in new music and atonalism, Alize has created several roles for world premiere operas as well as concert music, including Lila in Cold Mountain, in workshop with Jennifer Higdon and Andy 1 in Visconti’s Andy: A Popera, both with Opera Philadelphia. Ms. Rozsnyai has received awards with many organizations, including the prestigious Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship. She is Artistic Director as well as resident soprano and librettist for Alter Ego Chamber Opera, based in Philadelphia.
